Members briefing
An exclusive e-newsletter for members of the AMA in Tasmania
Message from Dr Chris Middleton
Dear AMA Tasmania Member
By the time you read this, I will be in my final 24 hours as president of the Tasmanian Branch. Before I throw in the towel I have a couple of favours to ask you.
Firstly, the annual general meeting is on tomorrow at the Launceston Country Club at Prospect. The national president, Andrew Pesce will be attending and we have numerous invited speakers. At the moment very few members have indicated that they will be attending and we are currently unlikely to be able to even make a quorum for the AGM. The topics for discussion tomorrow include the new National Registration Accreditation Scheme which will impact on every doctor in the country. It would be very much in your interest to come along and hear how the new scheme will affect you personally and also to hear how the Medical Board of Australia intends to justify increasing your annual registration fee to $650.00 (62% more than you currently pay).
For those who cannot make the sessions in the morning, the AGM itself will be held at 3pm and I would urge you to try to make it to this even if you can’t get to the earlier sessions. If you are going to come for lunch, could you please let our CEO Tony Steven know on 62232047 or 0409 219 368.
Secondly AMA membership around the country is a calendar year arrangement. That means that your subscriptions were due on the 1st January. My sincere thanks to those of you who have already renewed your subscription and you should have received your new membership cards and receipts by now. There are still more than 100 members who have yet to renew. The problem is that we are a small branch and almost completely dependent on subscription income for our continued operations. The viability of the Tasmanian Branch of the AMA is absolutely dependent on membership. If you have yet to renew, please call the state office and we will send you out more papers if you have mislaid the originals.
My sincere thanks for all of your support during my term of office.
Best regards
Chris Middleton
