WORKERS COMPENSATION CHANGES - UPDATE 2nd JULY
Members will be aware that WorkCover Tasmania has introduced sweeping changes to the workers compensation system effective 1 July, including changes to the certificates used.
A brief has previously been sent to members as prepared by Dr. Don Rose, Hon Medical Secretary, detailing what is known about the new system. This pointed out that no meaningful consultation with recognised medical organisations including the AMA had occurred.
The AMA has spoken with Mr. Martin Shirley, Director WorkCover Tasmania.
Mr. Shirley has confirmed that approval for the use of the 'OLD' workers compensation forms (Form 1 & Form 2) has NOT been withdrawn by the WorkCover Board, and that these certificates remain approved and are able to be legally used. Members have the option of using the old certificates until more information is made available.
The AMA recommends that members continue to use the OLD workers compensation forms (Form 1 & 2) and that the new forms be placed into storage pending the outcome of further negotiations with WorkCover Tasmania.
It is expected that WorkCover Tasmania will be asked to prepare and roll-out an education program for the State's medical practitioners to assist in the new system's implementation. Further updates are expected.
