Members briefing

An exclusive e-newsletter for members of the AMA in Tasmania

Welcome to 2012

Welcome to the new year.  Already christmas trees and christmas cards are being packed away, and our minds are again focussing on the issues at hand; among them being the plight of hospitals in Tasmania, and indeed our State health system.

Subscription Renewals

You would have received renewal notices in the mail towards the end of 2011.  If you have paid your subscription, thank you.

If you have not paid on-line at this stage, I would encourage you to do so as soon as possible, to ensure the continuation of your membership.

If you have any queries regarding your membership or the renewal, please contact our office on 03 6223 2047 or ama@amatas.com.au.

Smoke Free Tasmania

An opportunity has arisen for a member to represent AMA Tasmania at Smoke Free Tasmania.

Their next meeting will be held at Cancer Council Tasmania, 180 Collins Street, Thursday 19th January, commencing 2pm.

Please contact Tony Steven on 6223 2047 or ceo@amatas.com.au if you are interested.

Update on ANF Bargaining Enterprise Claim

Many practices subject to the ANF Log of Claims lodged last year with Fair work Australia will have now been served with a copy of the notice of listing and directions in relation to the ANF's application for a low-paid authorisation. The hearing has been listed for the week commencing 25 June, with dates given for filing of outlines of submissions, witness statements and other evidentiary material. A decision on whether the ANF can negotiate with multiple practices (and which practices) will be made after the hearing.

Visit the ANF Log of Claims area of the AMA Victoria website for more information, which includes a copy of the ANF's Application to Fair Work Australia, and attached list of respondents.

What you need to do:

1. Check whether you are part of the claim - practices are listed by name and address in the respondents list attached to end of the claim (from page 41). If you are not part of the claim you do not need to do anything else.

2. Complete the AMA survey when it is released later in January.

3. If you are part of the claim, keep your nurses up to date with what is happening and your thoughts on the claim.

4. Ensure you are represented, for example by providing AMA with authority to act.
